Experimental diets
L-Hyp (>99% pure), was obtained from Hengyuan Biotech. Co., Ltd (Shanghai, China). White fish meal (WFM), soybean meal (SBM), and wheat gluten meal (WGM) were used as the major protein sources.Fish oil was used as the major lipid source. Wheat flour was used as the carbohydrate source. Lysine-H2SO4, DL-methionine, L-threonine,L-arginine, L-isoleucine, L-leucine, and L-valine (crystalline amino acids) were supplemented to meet the essential amino acids requirements of juvenile turbot based on the whole body amino acid profile then thoroughly mixed with fish oil, and water was added to produce stiff dough. The dough was then pelletized using an experimental feed mill (F-26(II), South China University of Technology, China) and dried for about 12 h in a ventilated oven at 45 °C, and were stored at −20 °C until used. No differences were seen in any diets with regard to physical quality or sinking properties.
